2-15-06- Carter County firefighters were busy Wednesday in the Arbuckle Mountains where a fire ignited around 11:45 a.m. off of Foothills Road west of Springer.
Fire crews say what made this fire so difficult was its location. The flames kept getting caught in brush that would not stop burning and the rocks made it hard for fire trucks to get to the fire. Crews were finally able to get the fire under control around 1:00 p.m.
In all the fire burned about 100 acres and no structures were threatened. This is the third grass fire Springer has had to put out this week. In all, the fires in Springer have burned over 500 acres.
