2-16-06- Oklahoma state fire officials say a cold front that is moving slowly across the state Friday is producing strong winds and increasing fire danger.
Officials also say the expected cold weather during the coming weekend may increase the use of fireplaces and residents are urged to be careful. Discarded ashes from fireplaces are blamed for several recent fires and all ashes should be stirred into a bucket of cold water before being discarded.
More than 2,000 fires have burned across Oklahoma since November 1st and nearly 450,000 acres have been burned.
