2-18-06 - Around 7:15am on Saturday, Tioga police say a dodge pickup truck heading eastbound on Gene Autry Road stopped on the railroad tracks at Texas Street. A Union Pacific freight train headed south slammed into the driver's side, pushing the truck 30-50 feet down the road.
The passenger in the truck had to be flown to Methodist Hospital in Dallas. The driver was taken to Denton Regional by ambulance. Both are in critical condition.
The engineer and conductor on board the train were not hurt. While there are no crossing gates, there are crossing signs at the intersection, and police say the train is not at fault. Why the truck stopped on the tracks is still under investigation.
