2-23-06- First News has learned that escaped murder suspect Kevin Leon Cross was captured overnight, after more than 11 days on the run. Tactical teams tracked Cross to a home near Bennington.
They captured him just after midnight, despite Cross making another run for freedom moments after authorities surrounded the home, five miles east of Bennington. He was caught running out a back door just after 12:30am.
Authorities arrested three other people, including Cross' mother in Durant. Two others were questioned and released overnight, as investigators try to determine if Cross had help in avoiding the law.
On Wednesday, Bryan County law enforcement along with U.S. Marshall’s announced that they were offering a $10,000 reward for anyone with information that directly leads to Cross. But the OHP says the reward had nothing to do with the capture
Cross was taken to the state penitentiary in McAlester, as opposed to the Bryan County jail. The state is still investigating the escape that happened 11 days ago. A jailer was fired on Monday for making mistakes that led to the escape.
