Governor Henry Visits Troops in Iraq

2-24-06- Oklahoma Governor Brad Henry and Colorado Governor Bill Owens are in Iraq for a surprise visit with National Guard troops. The two were invited by the Defense Department and the State Department to join a tour of the region for a firsthand look at conditions where state soldiers are stationed.

Henry arrived in Kuwait Thursday and had dinner with airmen. He went to Iraq Friday and met with Oklahoma troops who are stationed in Baghdad. He's also visiting Ramadi for a demonstration of equipment used to clear roadways of land mines. The two governors also received a briefing from General George Casey who commands the multinational forces in Iraq.

Henry and Owens leave Iraq Friday and will make another stop in Kuwait before returning to Washington, DC Saturday. The trip was not announced at the request of the Defense Department because of security requirements.
