2-27-06 - The construction zone off of Interstate 35 saw an abundant number of accidents over the past weekend. State troopers are hoping a new effort on their part will make a difference.
Troopers worked seven accidents, six of which were at the one-mile marker and three of the accidents shut down the highway over the weekend. Troopers say that the accidents are all results of people driving to fast and they say they are having a hard time patrolling the area of the construction zone because it is down to one lane.
The construction shortened the ramps so vehicles are not getting as much time to merge. The construction is all due to an overlay project on the southbound lanes. Construction is scheduled for completion in June.
