3-8-06 - A bill to increase the amount of grant money available to rural fire departments in Oklahoma has passed the state Senate. Senators voted 46-0 Wednesday for the bill that raises the maximum grant from $2,780 a year to $5,000 year.
Rural fire departments have had their budgets nearly depleted as they fought wildfires that have burned about 500,000 acres in the state since November 1st.
The bill now goes to the House for consideration.
