3-8-06 - Two agencies in Pontotoc County are joining together to solve the problem of jurisdiction issues. The Pontotoc County Sheriff’s Department and the Chickasaw Nation say this joint will make them more efficient, more effective, and helpful in solving crimes faster.
The two departments have been working on the plan over the last year. The sheriff says since the Chickasaw Nation headquarters are in Ada, crossing jurisdictional lines happens often. So to solve the problem, deputies and LightHorse Police officers will join each other’s departments. It will allow them to investigate crimes and make arrests no matter which jurisdiction they are in.
The plan will take effect sometime next week. Deputies from the Pontotoc Sheriff’s office still need to be sworn in as LightHorse Police officers.
