3-18-06 – The Texoma Area Chapter of the Red Cross in Denison will have to have to relocate after lightning struck its ham radio tower Saturday morning. The shock downed phone lines and started a fire.
The Denison Fire Department put out the flames just a few minutes after the strike, but the incident still caused extensive water damage and left a hole in the roof.
No one was at the office at the time of the strike and no injuries are reported.
The organization was holding a garage sale fundraiser in Sherman when the strike occurred. Volunteers rushed to the Denison office to begin the clean-up process.
The cost of the damages has not been determined, but the director of the organization says another temporary office will have to be used until repairs are made. The Texoma chapter will still respond to emergencies at 903-465-1330.
