3-23-06 - Country music singer Willie Nelson and Oscar Award winning actor Morgan Freeman are to attend the opening ceremonies of a new biodiesel production facility in Durant next month.
The plant is to open April 2nd and is expected to produce 10 million gallons of biodiesel fuel each year by using soybean oil and the main ingredient. The plant will open with about 40 employees and is expected to eventually expand to about 100 workers. Biodiesel is seen as a way to reduce dependency on foreign oil and a way to help farmers find new markets for their products.
The plant is owned by Earth Biofuels. Both Nelson and Freeman are members of Earth Biofuels' board of directors.
In addition to the grand opening Nelson is planning a concert for that night at the Choctaw Coliseum in Durant. Tickets are $25-$50 with the proceeds to benefit the Durant Fire Department and the Bryan County Volunteer Fire Department.
