3-23-06 - Another case of animal abuse in Texoma leaves a horse dead after being shot within its own pasture. Ron Harrison of Calvin breeds mules and horses for a living. But within the past three months his animals have been under attack.
Friday afternoon Harrison came home to find his 4-year old stallion named ‘Hi Yellow Smoke’ lying in the front pasture, dead from a gunshot wound to the head. This is not the first time such an act has happened to Harrison’s livestock. Last December the same horse was shot and wounded and a mule was killed.
Harrison first considered the stunt a prank but says it now appears to be much worse. Ron Harrison says he has no enemies and does not know why someone would shoot his animals. These acts of violence are affecting his ability to earn money and he has asked the sheriff’s department to open a criminal investigation.
A local veterinarian who performed a necropsy on the horse confirmed the animal was intentionally.
