4-1-06 – The Oklahoma Highway Patrol is investigating how a Durant man ended up critically injured on the side of the road Saturday morning.
According to OHP, a 911 caller reported a man down along the shoulder of highway 70 in Bryan County around 2:00 a.m. When troopers arrived, they called for a medical helicopter to take 21-year-old Larry Smith of Durant to Parkland Hospital in Dallas. The man was critically injured, sustaining severe head trauma.
Troopers are investigating if the incident was a hit-and-run. Authorities gathered evidence at the scene, including a novelty license plate that would have belonged to a 1997 or 1998 Ford F150 or F250 pickup truck. Troopers also interviewed the 911 caller and people that were with Smith at a party that evening.
The case is under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call the Oklahoma Highway Patrol at 580-924-2601.
