4-1-06 – The Durant Middle School got a face-lift with the help of a group of volunteers from Southeastern Oklahoma State University. The school house is about 90 years old. While it is structurally sound, the outside of the building needed some work.
A group of SOSU students, organized by a former Durant student gathered at the school Saturday to landscape, paint and clean. Katy Ann Glover attended Durant Middle School and is studying education at SOSU. She applied for a $1,000 National Education Association grant to cover the make-over costs.
Glover is president of the Oklahoma Education Association’s student chapter at Southeastern. She says the group has several projects in the works to fix up classrooms across the state.
