4-2-06 – Country music singer Willie Nelson and Oscar Award winning actor Morgan Freeman attended opening ceremonies of a new bio diesel plant in downtown Durant on Sunday.

Earth Biofuels will produce bio diesel fuel using soybean oil and canola oil.

The plant plans to eventually hire about 100 workers. Bio diesel is seen as a way to reduce dependency on foreign oil and a way to help farmers find new markets for their products.

The plant is owned by Earth Biofuels. Both Nelson and Freeman are members of Earth Biofuels' board of directors. They toured the facility on Sunday.

The Choctaw Nation has agreed to sell the fuel at their truck stops in Oklahoma.

At 8pm, Sunday night Nelson holds a concert at the Choctaw Coliseum in Durant. Proceeds benefit the Durant Fire Department and Bryan County Volunteer departments.

Nelson is already using bio diesel fuel for his personal vehicle and tour buses.
