GAINESVILLE, Tex. -- Gainesville ISD officials are left literally picking up the pieces after someone broke several school bus windows. Now they want to let everyone know that while it will not affect the school transportation next month, it is an extra expense in an already tight budget.

Officials estimate the damage to be around $900 dollars, and they want the person responsible for the crime to face the consequences for the crime.

The first vandalism happened on Tuesday night. Witnesses saw a teenager throwing rocks over the fence at that bus yard in the 400 block of Harvey.

Then on Wednesday night, they say the same teen return to the scene, throwing more rocks. This time police say neighbors were able point him out to officers.

Because he is a juvenile, the suspect's name is not being released, but Gainesville superintendent Bill Grevitt says the teen should be punished for the crime.

"You have rules, and then there is always someone that has to interrupt that, and we're certainly trying to go the other direction," Grevitt said.

Authorities say no charges have been filed, but it is also not the first time this young man has been in trouble with the law.

I agree that we are no longer able to punish our kids. This juvy should have to work off the costs to repair the buses. Iwould say the parents are responsilbe, but if you are a "normal" parent like most of us, then you are not able to keep an eye on your child 24/7. He should be punished and maybe even put a little scare tactics in him. If it is the first time getting in trouble with the law, try to make it the last with a harsh punishment.

Not his first time in trouble with the law, AND NOT HIS LAST. Parents aren't allowed to disipline their children anymore and now kids can do whatever they want without consequences. When I messed up, I GOT SPANKED!!! MY MOTHER, GOT SPANKED. MY GRANDMOTHER, GOT SPANKED!! My children will get spanked and will be taught to RESPECT PROPERTY OF OTHERS.

One full year of detention and community service. He should have to work of the cost of replacing all those windows. If he fails to show for his punishment, then put him in RID.

This is probably not the first time he has done something illegal just the first time to get caught. Punish him to the fullest extent that the law will allow.

Sell all the buses, and then place the burden on the parent's. Toss them in jail for their child's truancy.
