SHERMAN, Tex. -- Construction at FM 1417 and State Highway 56 will have a major effect on a busy Sherman intersection on Friday. Texas Department of Transportation's contractor, R. K. Hall Construction, LTD. is nearing the phase of the FM 1417/SH 56 contract which will require them to place bridge beams over SH 56.

On Friday, July 25, 2008, traffic will be impacted while the bridge beams are being placed over SH 56. Traffic on FM 1417 will be reduced to one lane. Message boards, signs, and flaggers will be utilized to handle traffic through out the one lane configuration. Traffic on SH 56 will be required to stop east/west movements periodically during this operation to allow the overhead beams to be set onto the bridge foundations.

This operation should take approximately 10 hours to complete. Traffic on FM 1417 and SH 56 will encounter delays between the hours of 7:00 am and 5:00 pm.

Motorists should obey warning signs and flaggers. Motorists are encouraged to avoid this location if at all possible. If this route cannot be avoided, motorists are asked to exercise caution and patience especially during this phase of the construction.

What a bunch of whiners! The road is being worked on to make it a better one so you can drive your Escalades and Suburbans, and you cry over a little inconvenience. People, that's life- get over yourselves and leave a little earlier to allow for the delays.

For Boo - Probably some of the same Einsteins who wait until after school starts to schedule children's doctors appointments / surgical procedures / etc. that are sure to make the children miss school. Let's face it, the brain trust in this country is rapidly being depleted. However, one reason they may not be scheduling this job on the weekend is that they may expect the weekend to be busier at this intersection with people coming to Sherman to do their shopping - just a thought. I am not sure how busy this intersection is at any particular time. Also having employees work on Saturday usually means time and a half pay which on jobs like this eventually comes out of taxpayer pockets.

Perfect. Why not wait for the weekend... Just like fixing the streets around schools during school times instead of summer when the streets aren't as busy. Who is the idiot who plans this crap?!?!?!?
