SHERMAN, Tex. -- Grayson County officials are doing all they can to save some of their old records. Commissioners will discuss a proposal on Monday that will take all old records and convert them to digital files.

The contract is with an outside company and is valued at $1.5 million. Many of the records the county has are from years ago, including many district court records which contain information that cannot be lost.

"Some of them can be destroyed and some can’t. If there are archival documents then we will continue to have the paper record, but others can then be destroyed and that will alleviate a lot of the problems with record storage," Grayson County purchasing agent Jeff Schneider said.

If approved, officials hope to complete the project within a year.

Was wondering if any of the original documents would be available to the public instead of being destroyed? I know here in Lamar County they allowed the public to obtain the original documents once they were stored digitally. Would be interested in those documents pertaining to my family history i.e. real property records, marriages, etc... Any suggestions on who to contact?
