Blake Shelton to Host Firefighter Fundraiser

4-8-06 - ADA, Okla. (AP) - Country music singer Blake Shelton is returning home to hold a fundraiser for victims of the wildfires that have plagued Oklahoma for months.

Shelton says he will host a three-day event called "Raindance" in his hometown of Ada starting May 14th. The event will include a concert featuring Shelton and at least four other country artists.

Shelton says the first artist to commit to perform at the concert is Andy Griggs.

Shelton is known for hits such as "Austin," "Ol' Red" and "Some Beach." He says he wanted to do the benefit because he's fond of people in his home state.

Since November 1st, grass fires in Oklahoma have scorched an estimated 560-thousand acres, damaged or destroyed more than one-thousand homes and businesses and killed at least three people, including a volunteer firefighter.
