SHERMAN, TX -- Friday's bus crash was tragic for everyone involved. Now it is bringing the community together. And that's exactly what one Vietnamese pastor says is needed most.
Joseph Vu is pastor of the Vietnamese martyrs in Houston. He says he was shocked to get a call at 2:00 a.m., that a bus carrying many of his parishioners crashed, leaving at least eleven people dead. He rushed to Texoma.
I assumed there's more people involved to the accidents and so only, so I called my deacon, the administrator and we decided to go together to visit and try to give help to people, says Vu.
Now it’s been confirmed that at least 15 people have died.
Vu is making Saint Patrick's Church in Denison his temporary workplace. That way he's close to those suffering and he's able to help comfort families members. He says it's not the time to place blame. It’s a time to come together for support and pray.
Put our trust in God, and try to console one another and help one another to go through this and let God comfort us, says Vu.
Richie Colonna is a member of Saint Patrick’s and the Knights of Columbus. He spent much of Friday at the church's Xavier Center, where families passed through and were able to talk to hometown pastor Vu, which Colonna says is particularly helpful in difficult times.
They need somebody with a familiar face to help them cope with this. We are a Christian Catholic family worldwide, but it's nice to see somebody that is a familiar face, says Colonna.
Vu helped console those who are in Parkland and Baylor hospitals in Dallas before heading to Denison, where he plans to be at Saint Patrick's Church for a service in honor of the crash victims.
