OAKLAND, OK -- Some citizens in Oakland, Oklahoma are distancing themselves from their town mayor and even calling for her resignation. An audio recording of a July council meeting captured Margarette Redwine, the mayor of Oakland, using a racial epithet.

The meeting took place July 7th, when the town's board of trustees began discussing a problem with chickens. That's when Mayor Redwine spoke up and voiced her solution to the problem, and suggested a slingshot could be used, except she did not use the word slingshot. What she did say was a phrase that many people find horribly offensive.

Robin Beal caught up with Mayor Redwine Friday afternoon at the Oakland Town Hall.

I have been advised by my attorney not to say anything so everything is referred to him, so, if ya'll would like to talk to him, call David Mordy,”said Redwine.

When asked if she was a racist, Redwine replied, No I am not, No I am not. I have several black people married into my family and I am not.
