Services For Slain Girl Held in Purcell

4-20-06 - A 10-year-old Purcell girl who police say was brutally murdered by a neighbor last week was laid to rest in Guthrie Thursday afternoon after a funeral service at Purcell High School.

An estimated 1,000 people turned out for the funeral for Jamie Rose Bolin. Members of her Girl Scout troop and police who searched for the girl were in tears as her favorite songs were played and a video about her was shown.

An emotional Pastor Duane Elmore tried to comfort the mourners, telling them the youngster is in a better place and that heaven needed another rose. After a graveside service at Summit View Cemetery green balloons that were tied to an awning over the burial area were given to the children who released them.

Jamie disappeared last Wednesday and her body was found Friday stuffed in a container inside the apartment of Kevin Underwood. Investigators say Underwood tortured and killed her, then sexually abused her body and was planning to eat the corpse.

Underwood is now charged with first-degree murder and prosecutors say they'll ask for the death penalty.
