4-21-06 - Two former Denison High School students badly injured in an accident on Texoma Parkway last October will be in Dallas this weekend for a cause they say is personal.
Their families say Justin McKenzie and Chase Ward almost lost their lives in the accident that happened at the intersection Texoma Parkway and Woodlake Road. Six months later the two are making great strides and will take steps Saturday walking against drunk driving. For 19-year old Chase Ward, the road to recovery was a long one and for 21-year old Justin McKenzie, there is still distance to travel.
37-year old Timothy Whitmore was behind the wheel of the truck that ran a red light that night resulting in a wreck that put both young men in a coma. Thursday in court, the alleged drunk driver plead not guilty. And Saturday morning Chase and Justin will lead the Mothers Against Drunk Driving Strides for Change Walk. Chase himself raised over $900,000 for the organization.
Timothy Whitmore is charged with two counts of intoxicated assault and two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Whitmore was already facing a DWI charge before the Texoma Parkway accident occurred. His trial is set to being in September.
