4-23-06 - FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) - A natural gas well explosion in a Fort Worth suburb today killed one person and forced the evacuation of 500 homes.
Authorities say the victim was part of a four-man crew that was working on the well when the explosion happened just before eight AM.
No other injuries were reported.
The gas line was sealed about eight hours after the blast.
Residents began returning to their homes shortly after.
The well was operated by Fort Worth-based XTO Energy.
Police and fire officials went door-to-door to help evacuate residents within a half-mile of the well.
Several agencies, including the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, will investigate the explosion.
