4-23-06 – The 20th Annual Lakefest Regatta came to a close on Sunday with an awards presentation, honoring those that helped raise thousands of dollars for local children’s charities.
Two hundred and fifty sailors and fifty teams raced on Lake Texoma Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
Last year’s regatta brought in more than $50,000 for Grayson County charities that support children with special needs. Organizers say they expect to match that number this year.
For the second year in a row, members of the Sherman High School Special Olympics team handed out the first, second and third place awards.
Organizers are still working on tallying up how much money was raised this year. They say they will present checks to local charities in a couple of weeks.
