Girl released, woman remains hospitalized in Bonham dog attack

John Hardy Taylor

BONHAM, Tex. -- The 11-year-old girl attacked by dogs in Bonham is said to be okay Thursday, but the 44-year-old woman attacked remains in a Dallas hospital, and the owner of the dogs is now facing felony charges.

Police say it happened around 5:15 p.m. Wednesday near downtown Bonham when two dogs escaped from a car and attacked 44-year-old Judy Pless on her bicycle in the 500 block of North Main.

When witnesses scared the dogs away, they then attacked an 11-year-old girl just around the corner on 5th Street who was also getting onto a bicycle.

Police say the dogs are believed to be pit bulls. There were four of them in the car, two of which jumped out and attacked.

Pless was flown to Parkland Hospital in Dallas with multiple tears and puncture wounds. She remains hospitalized Thursday.

The 11-year-old girl was flown to Children's Medical Center in Dallas where she was later released.

The dogs' owner, John Hardy Taylor, was initially arrested on misdemeanor charges related to the attack. Taylor has since been charged with four counts of attack by a dog, a third-degree felony. Police are also charging Taylor with misdemeanors of allowing the dogs to run loose and having no rabies vaccinations.

The dogs have been taken into custody and were placed in isolation. The judgment of this case is set to take place Friday.
