Caitlin's Law Passes State House

4-26-06 - A murdered Ada teenager is the inspiration for a law intended to keep people accused of violent crimes in jail and Wednesday Caitlin’s Law passed the Oklahoma State House.

The law is named for 16-year-old Caitlin Wooten who was kidnapped and killed by her mother’s ex-boyfriend three weeks after he was released on bail for kidnapping her mother.

The bill requires anyone charged with kidnapping to prove they are not a public danger before they are released on bail and it also notifies victims when an offender moves through the system.

The bill will now go back to the Senate for a final vote.
