4-28-06 - A special meeting at the Madill City Council focused on their airport Friday with some big changes coming in order to keep it open and keep businesses flying.
The Madill Airport is still in use for industries in the area that need to move materials, but the airport needs work and that is where the project comes in. The projects will extend and widen the runways as well as build fencing around the perimeter. The FAA requires theses changes to keep the airport in use. The improvements to the airport will cost between $600,000 and $750,000.
The airport receives money every year from the stat that they have been rolling over to fund this project. The meeting Friday was to accept the amendment for the part of the project that would require the fencing and the council unanimously that amendment. The city hopes to begin construction this summer.
