SHERMAN, Tex. -- Several residential burglaries have been reported in Sherman in a span of about two months. Police say a single suspect was behind them all. Rashi Vats has the details.

In late July and early August, detectives noticed an increase in daytime residential burglaries in west Sherman. On Saturday, police finally caught the man they say robbed at least five homes.

Mark Shawn Smith, 42, led officers on a chase Saturday from Sherman that ended in Anna. Police say smith threw a number of items out of the vehicle including jewelry during the pursuit.

An investigation revealed that those items came from several homes that had been broken into. Detectives say they also found stolen property inside Smith's apartment.

"Several of the items that were stolen were from the first burglaries, we've located them in pawn and pawn shops in the Dallas area, and we are working with the Dallas Police Department and the pawn shops to recover those items and get them back to the owners," Detective Riley Day of the Sherman Police Department said,

Smith is in the Grayson County Jail. He already had an arrest warrant issued for a parole violation. After Saturday’s pursuit, Smith was arrested on charges of evading and tampering with evidence as well as possession of stolen property.

A covicted felon cannot get a job at mc/donalds or any corporate place! I know I tried. I was 43 years old, perfect work history, screwed up and went to prison none of the good in your past is ever remembered. Only the bad. This man was a herion addict why don't the state of texas offer him some help instead of putting him back in prison where he can learn more about drugs and bad behavior!!!! He's got a heart of gold and was always there for everyone before himself. Where is everyone now!!! all but his wife have left him. She will stand by him forever because she knows hes got an addiction not because hes a bad person. And yes he did have a job and so did his wife but its hard when you first get out of prison and have NO HELP FROM ANYONE!!!!! Especially family..

"literary comprehendor", Now that is funny. If you are going to make a bold claim such as that at least try to spell it right. COMPREHENDER, not comprehendor. Look it up!

No one has the right to steal- even lazy people like this guy. And 'John Ross'- you should just stop posting. You sound realllly stupid. There's all kinds of people willing to pay for manual laborers: mow lawns, landscape, construction help, pick up trash on the side of the road. Lots of felons have regular jobs...Are they fun? NO. Glamorous? NO. Put food on the table? YES. But lazy felons who aren't willing, likely wouldn't look into a 'real job'. They'd just look for the easiest route, like stealing from someone else who actually worked hard for what they have. And you think that's ok?? You need help, John Ross. Get a clue. And you are VERY WRONG when you said "IF YOU WAS IN HIS POSITION YOU WOULD HAVE DONE IT" Some people have morals, character, and also know that 'what comes around goes around' and they 'COULDN'T' do it because they know the value of hard work. So, NO- you are very wrong about that.... Who couldn't take care of just themselves? Grow up.

FARMER JOHN! As far as your opinion of the criminal...I do agree. However you seem to lack comprehension of the story and comments. Brett & Dad are not speaking of the criminal but the Detective who was in charge of the case. And I personally know that neither of them have been to the "big house", they both work full time and hold highly respectable positions and reputations. I think you owe them an apology.

Posted by: Farmer John Location: Healdton is OK on Aug 21, 2008 at 10:35 PM
Well,Well Jon Ross so you have been to the big house and Brett,Dad, all of you probably been there also, there is nothing worse than a thief, let alone one that is 42 years old,I know of this guy and he has NEVER held a job over a couple of months,he is NOT married and has no kids,He is a professional thief and sleeze bag.About 4 years ago he stole a chicken and two dogs one of the dogs bit him and the chicken came up pregnant, and is now trying to get child support for her 5 chicks,he just keeps giving her chicken feed as an excuse, he is a trouble maker and a chicken @#$%er and I hope he gets what is coming to him,Big Bubba....

The wall markings are in inches. So no, he isn't 7' tall, but if you robs the wrong person he will be 6' under.

Posted by: Dookey Location: Shermboro on Aug 21, 2008 at 04:00 PM
Hey Jon Ross, post up an email addy and I'll send you my address. You and your buddies can come by tonight and rob my house. Of course, don't be mad if I shoot you in the face with a 12ga., it's just something I do occasionally...to poor folks down on their luck....tardner

Posted by: Durant Location: Oklahoma on Aug 21, 2008 at 01:22 PM
There's alsoo something called a food bank where he could have went to get food and many churches will help people who are down on their luck. All you have to do is ask. There is NO excuse for stealing.

Posted by: julie Location: tx on Aug 21, 2008 at 01:21 PM
Oh yea we all get to go out and rob a place now that gas and electric bills etc. have gone sky high. I want people like Jon Ross on the jury when I get caught.STUPID!

Posted by: Judge on Aug 21, 2008 at 01:06 PM
Someone please tell me Jon Ross is not real. Is this a joke? No one really talks like that do they? Hey someone educate me on these wall measurements. Is this guy 7 feet tall? Maybe Mark Cuban will post his bail so the Mavericks can have another stiff, white-guy center.

Posted by: Anonymous on Aug 21, 2008 at 12:58 PM
Ross, this guy doesn't have kids and he's not married. He is just a bad apple. He was given the opportunity to have a good job but what did he do? He broke into his employer's home and robbed it and then he robbed the employer's kid's home so don't give me this about him being a victim? He's just evil and would rob you if he had the chance.

Posted by: texan Location: texas on Aug 21, 2008 at 12:46 PM
Jon Ross, the last comment you made has to be the dumbest I have ever read on here. He has made choices in his life that were not right, he will never get a break from the real world. He needs to accept it and enjoy jail life. What is his family to do now that he cant steal for them, how will they put food on the table? I guess just like the rest of us, go out and work your butt off for it.

Posted by: Anonymous on Aug 21, 2008 at 12:42 PM
Dont put yourself in the position to become a felon and you might be able to get a job.

Posted by: JON ROSS Location: SHERMAN on Aug 21, 2008 at 11:23 AM
HE HAD A JOB TILL THEY LAID OFF ABUNCH OF FOLKS IF YOU WAS IN HIS POSITION YOU WOULD HAVE DONE IT TO PUT FOOD IN YOUR CHILDS MOUTH NO MATTER WHAT THE CONCENQUENCES

Posted by: JON ROSS Location: SHERMAN on Aug 21, 2008 at 11:15 AM
HEY MCDONALDS DONT HIRE CONVICTED FELONS TRUST ME I KNOW ITS HARD TO GET A JOB WITH FELONIES AND ITS WAY TO EASY TO CATCH A FEL0NY NOW DAYS THIS WORLD IS JUST A TRAP FOR ANYONE TO GET CAUGHT IN

Posted by: Anonymous on Aug 21, 2008 at 11:14 AM
Well Jon Ross, he's succeeded in getting food put on his plate- and a place to sleep to boot. It's called county jail. Hope he likes that jail chow...........

Posted by: Anonymous on Aug 21, 2008 at 10:58 AM
Why work when its so much easier to whine, grip and take it from those of us who do work 12hrs shifts!

Posted by: Blair on Aug 21, 2008 at 09:25 AM
Hey, Jon Ross. Here's an idea: Tell him to get a job. A real job. Don't tell me there aren't any, because I know for a fact that places like McDonald's is hiring all the time. Yeah, it may not be glamorous, but it will give him honest money and he won't have to go out and burglarize innocent people's houses. Good people don't steal from innocent people.

I wish he'd come and rob my house.

Posted by: jon ross Location: sherman on Aug 21, 2008 at 03:36 AM
