Authorities in Oklahoma will be taking extra steps to catch people not wearing seatbelts and drinking & driving, starting this weekend.

Of course, troopers are watching for those violations all the time, but beginning this weekend, a special operation will do even more to target those people who do not follow the rules.

Drivers can expect vehicle checkpoints, and troopers with an eye for aggressive driving and seat belt violations.

"The program is going to extend through the Labor Day holiday. Obviously we're going to be utilizing all available personnel to go after the drinking and drunk diver, and we're also going to be concentrating on the safety belt restraints as well," Lt. Allen Henry of the Oklahoma Highway Patrol says.

Troopers say water safety will also be emphasized, with extra patrols on area lakes as well.

it shows you people are crazy, I think it is great that OHP is going to do this Have you noticed how many fatal wrecks OK has had hear lately not to even think about the lake that has had so many problems on the OK side. OHP should get more money and have more troopers out on patrol.

Fozzy you are always so discriptive...lol! To Anon: I do have common sense! I always wear my seatbelt when I drink and drive... HAHAHHAHAHA!!

Concerned: "Honest" people do not break the law. Wearing seatbelts is the law. Murder is against the law so is it OK for "honest people" to break that law just because they don't agree with it? They don't give you a choice of what laws you want to break or obey. When will the public say enough is enough to you morons?

Not wearing seatbelts costs plenty. If you were guaranteed to die, it would be cheaper and I'd agree with you. But usually it costs more because the morons who do not like seatbelts usually have family members who think that they can sue everyone under the sun to profit off of your death. And of course the non-seatbelt wearers usually are not insured to the degree where they can stay hooked up to all those cool machines while they lay there and drool on themselves for a decade or more.

OK, you whiners, I know this is gonna cut in on your drinkin' 'n drivin' time, ut so what? You sound like my brother-in-law from Mississippi, and he has no sense either. Here's a concept- buckle up and stay sober. The ERs are full enough of idiots who coulda avoided serious injury just by wearing their seat belt.

WOW!! My tax dollars at work. Why not just stop every person for NO reason at all on the very SLIM chance you might catch someone not wearing their seatbelt, just because you do not want to do anything beneficial. Not wearig your seatbelt ONLY HURTS you!! Wake up.

Gay!! Do something better with your time! And quit wasting me tax dollars on stupid check points.

Wow! So this means they have found who killed Joshua Lynn Williams? Must be since they have time to hassle honest people who feel they should have the right to choose whether they were a seat belt or not. Sounding more and more like a Police State to me. And all this so little towns get more funding from the government to push their agenda. When will the public say enough is enough.
