BONHAM, Tex. -- Earlier this week dozens of dogs found in western Love County were taken to the Neely Petplace Rescue and Adoption Shelter in Fannin County. Now scam artists may be soliciting donations for the shelter but pocketing the money for themselves. Rashi Vats has more.
The Neely Petplace Rescue and Adoption Shelter in Bonham received many of those dogs that need vet care and donations. While they are getting the much-needed donations, there are some other people who the owner says could be trying to falsely solicit donations.
"If someone calls soliciting donations for our shelter, it is not the shelter that's calling. We don't want them to think we are getting ugly with anyone or that we are calling around looking for donations,” Neely's Petplace owner Brenda Neely says.
All of the dogs brought to the shelter earlier this week from Love County need shelter, food, and vet care, which are being provided by Brenda Neely and her shelter.
Neely is paying for the dogs’ medical costs out of her own pocket. She says donations are much-needed to care for all of the dogs before she puts them for up for adoption.
The shelter has a Fannin County bank account set up, so anyone using a credit card can make donations. At the end of every week that money will be sent by the bank to the veterinarian’s office.
Neely's business isn't the only one caring for those dogs. The Town & Country Animal Clinic in Ardmore has also taken on several of those animals.
No word from Love County authorities on who might be responsible for abandoning those dogs.
