The following is a news release from the Grayson County Sheriff's Office:
On May 1st, 2006 at approx. 8:30am, the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office received information that a backhoe tractor was taken from Cooke County sometime over the last weekend. A source had information that the tractor was possibly located near Tioga in Grayson County. Grayson County Sheriff’s Office Investigators and the Texas Department of Public Safety Motor Vehicle Theft Unit began a search for the stolen tractor near State Highway 377 in the Tioga area.
While searching the area, an Investigator for the Texas Department of Public Safety Motor Vehicle Theft Unit saw a tractor matching he description of the stolen backhoe driving away from a residence. The Investigator stopped the backhoe and based on information derived from the investigation, arrested the operator, 31-year-old Joe Cade for Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle.
The owner of the property from which the backhoe was leaving and who is believed to be involved in the case gave investigators from the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office consent to search the premises. As a result of the search, the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office seized 16 weapons (assault type and handgun), 3 silencers, drug paraphernalia, a small quantity of what is believed to be marijuana, and a small quantity of a white powder substance believed to be methamphetamine. Investigators also seized a 16-foot box trailer, believed to be stolen. The property owner, 34-year-old Reginald McDowell, was arrested and charged with possession of a prohibited weapon (silencer).
The value of the recovered backhoe tractor was $50,000 and the value of the box trailer was $5, 000.
