5-4-06 - An armed man robbed the Braum’s restaurant in Sherman late Wednesday night. Employees were about to lock up at the restaurant on 600 N. Travis Street just after 10pm when they say a man wearing a rag over his walked through the doors with a pistol in his hand.

The robber ordered everyone to the rear of the store and told them to get on their knees. The employees complied. After the suspect got the money he left the store and fled the area.

The following is a news release from the Sherman PD on what happened next:

During their investigation, officers obtained information that led them to a house on W. Brockett Street a short distance from the Braums store. The information obtained by the officers led them to believe this was the suspect’s residence. When the officers arrived at that residence they found that Kourtney Hanley, a 25 year old male of Dallas, was inside the residence and he matched the description of the robber.

While interviewing Hanley’s girlfriend, who also lives at the residence, the officers found that the Hanley had left the residence a short time before the robbery, was wearing clothes that matched the description of the robbery suspect when he left the residence, and returned to the residence a short time after the robbery. Officers also found that Hanley immediately changed clothes when he returned to the residence.

Detective Larry Atherton obtained a search warrant for the residence. Atherton and other officers executed the search warrant and collected several items of evidence including a handgun that matched the description of the handgun used by the suspect in the robbery.

Based on the evidence obtained by the officers, Kourtney Hanley was arrested a short time later for Robbery. He was transported to the Grayson County Jail where he remains at this time. This case is still being investigated. No other details are available.
