05-12-06 - A major accident on I-35 has created a traffic nightmare in Gainesville Friday, but troopers say a temporary barrier in the median probably saved lives.
Around 2:00 p.m. a medical emergency forced the driver of a semi truck to slam into the back of an SUV at mile marker 495. The SUV, with a mother and her three children inside, was pushed into the median, but no one was injured. The semi slid into the median, but the barrier kept it from going into oncoming traffic.
The semi driver was flown from the scene due to the medical condition.
Both lanes have reopened on I-35.
