5-16-06 - A train carrying 135 cars of coal derailed in Hugo on Tuesday morning. The Burlington Northern train was heading for a power plant in Ft Towson when seven cars jumped the tracks in the middle of town.
The Burlington Northern Train was on its way to the Western Farmers Power Plant in Fort Towson with a load of coal when it left the tracks near "A" and "E" streets.
Officials say it was carrying 135 cars. About seven of those tipped over, spilling 700 tons of coal.
North and southbound traffic in Hugo was backed up for about a mile while they cleared the roads. No one was hurt.
