Police Car Flips in High-Speed Chase

05-17-06 - A man who led Atoka Police Officers on a chase Wednesday morning is in custody, but not before causing a patrol car to roll over.

The chase began near Caney around 4:30 a.m. when 43-year-old Jeffrey Kehoe of Denison was clocked going 89 mph in a 45 mph zone on Highway 69, but when officers tried to pull him over, he kept going.

Kehoe traveled all the way to Pittsburgh County before being stopped with spike strips. But along the way an Atoka officer who was giving chase rolled his car near Stringtown.

Kehoe went into the opposite lane of traffic causing traffic to swerve and Officer Derek Franklin flipped while trying to avoid other vehicles, but escaped with only a few scrapes and bruises thanks to buckling up. The seatbelt locked him in the vehicle and he had to cut it with a knife to free himself from the car.

Kehoe is now in the Coal County Jail facing charges of speeding and eluding officers.
