5-21-06 – AAA anticipates that the number of people traveling for the Memorial Day holiday will rise only slightly higher than last year, thanks to gas prices. Still, lake businesses say they are gearing up for a busy weekend. The Grand Pappy Point Marina, located on the Grayson County side of Lake Texoma, says it is completely booked for the long weekend.
On Sunday, boaters still flocked to the lake to enjoy the warm weather. Compared to this time last year, boaters paid about 40 cents more per gallon to fill up their boats. Marina owners said they don’t expect the gas prices to keep people on the docks because the overall economy is healthier than a few years ago.
One boater on the lake said he paid more than six hundred dollars to fill up his yacht this weekend, but he expects the investment to last through the entire summer. The Frisco resident says he plans to come up to the lake several weekends this summer. He is not alone. Cabins and campsites at the Mill Creek Marina and Little Mineral Marina are also booked for the Memorial Day holiday.
Prices saw a slight dip last week and marina owners say an increase now would not be enough to deter boaters.
