FEMA using hotels/motels to house Ike evacuees

For the hundreds of thousands affected by Ike, FEMA announced the Transitional Sheltering Program on Tuesday.

FEMA has arranged for some hotel and motel chains to house evacuees and the agency is billed directly for the rooms.

FEMA says Hurricane Ike victims who qualify can stay at a hotel or motel until October 14.

Evacuees should register with FEMA to see if they can receive the temporary assistance.

I believe I go to work everyday. DO NOT get any kind of Public assistance and am a single parent. I am out of work due to Hurricane Ike. I have had to leave my home,sleep in a strange place not knowing when I can go back home.They are only paying our Motel. The gas and food I have to pay for.My bills go on and I can't work and make a paycheck.I pay taxes just like you (if you do). I believe I deserve a little help of paying my motel since I have no electricity, water, or sewage.

Hey Pops, they won't be here forever. And what if it were YOU. These people probably spent their whole paycheck just to get here! At least they weren't like some idiots who stayed! Stop and think for a minute, if you're capable, ......what if EVERYTHING you had was GONE? Huh. Might change your opinion. I agree, some folks have taken advantage of our tax dollars. I gripes me too. But have some compassion!
