05-25-06 - Mercy Memorial Hospital in Ardmore is planning big changes in the future for a $60 million improvement project that will get underway in about a year.
Thursday, hospital officials made plans for the expansion and the fundraising campaign public and they have been planning the expansion for a while. Currently, they are planning on how to get the community involved in making the massive project a reality.
The plan, titled “Healthcare At a New Level” takes major steps to make quality healthcare more accessible to people in southern Oklahoma. Hospital administrators say the lack of certain features of the hospital, such as the number of private rooms, is a bug reason people travel to Norman, Oklahoma City, and even places like Denton for their healthcare. The new facility will include a patient tower with 150 private rooms, a new woman’s health center, an expanded ICU, and more parking.
Out of the $22 million the hospital had to raise to complete the project, various local corporations have already donated almost $19 million of that. Once the project reaches maturity, officials say it could result in $70 million being put back into the community.
