06-01-06 - CBS says correspondent Kimberly Dozier is "awake and alert" and asking about her colleagues. Dozier remains in critical but stable condition after the Iraq bombing that took the lives of her cameraman and soundman.
She's now able to communicate in writing, and asked today what happened to her crew. A spokeswoman says family and doctors agreed Dozier should be told. The bodies of Dozier's two British colleagues are being given a somber welcome at London's Heathrow Airport Thursday. Thursday afternoon, Dozier was taken off the ventilator.
She was transported to Germany after the Memorial Day blast that also killed an American soldier and an Iraqi translator. Reports on the CBS Web site say Dozier was so badly wounded that at one point her pulse stopped. A doctor is quoted as saying Dozier "was as sick as you get."
