06-05-06 - A missing five-day-old baby was found in a
car seat beneath a carport and a woman was in custody this evening,
more than 24 hours after the infant's mother said she was abducted
by a woman posing as a nurse.
Priscilla Nicole Maldonado was taken to University Medical
Center by police and reunited with her parents.
Hospital spokesman Greg Bruce said the baby was being evaluated
and seemed to be fine. Priscilla had been diagnosed with jaundice.
Jesse Madrid, the baby's great-uncle, said -- quote -- "We
couldn't have asked for more."
Lieutenant Roy Bassett said police received a tip from a caller
in Amarillo who suggested they contact a man in Lubbock. The man
told police his wife had recently had a baby, but the man didn't
have details they felt he should have known about the birth.
Bassett said 33-year-old Stephanie Lynn Anderson Jones was in
custody and was being held on kidnapping charges. He said
detectives were questioning her as well as her husband.
The baby was alone in 104-degree weather when she was found. It
wasn't clear how long she was outside before police arrived.
