ARDMORE, Okla. -- Carter County Commissioners have the purchase of a brand new fire ladder truck.

The Ardmore Fire Department currently has just one such truck, and it is nearly 20 years old.

The new truck will be state-of-the-art, and feature a 75-foot retractable ladder, complete with a remotely controlled spray nozzle.

It will cost about $600,000, and will not be limited to serving just Ardmore.

Since the county is paying for it, it will be available for use all over Carter County.

"It was the unanimous vote of the county fire chiefs was that it be in Ardmore, be used for our main purposes here with our commercial industries and our multi-story building, so we are the logical place to house this unit," Ardmore deputy fire chief Cary Williamson says.

The new truck should begin service sometime next year.

I really believe that the addition for a ladder truck in Carter County will be great. I'm a firefighter myself and know the importance of such a apparatus. Good job Carter County citizens.
