Freddie Guedea

A | A | A

SHERMAN, TX -- A Sherman police officer accused of interfering with an emergency telephone call has been cleared of related assault charges. A Grayson County grand jury declined to take action against 42-year-old Freddie Guedea on a charge of assault causing bodily injury- family violence, but charges of interfering with an emergency call are still pending.

Guedea turned himself into authorities earlier this month after an argument with his wife apparently got out of hand. Police say Guedea's wife tried to dial 911 during that argument. That was when authorities say Guedea broke the phone.

Guedea has been with the Sherman Police Department for several years.

The grand jury declined taking action on the assault charge stemming from that incident. Officials said the charge of interfering with an emergency call is still pending.

It is unclear if or when Guedea will return to active duty as the investigation continues.

"From what I understand he was no-billed by the grand jury [on the assault charge]. Right now he is still on administrative leave, and pending the outcome of an internal investigation by the department," Sgt. Bruce Dawsey of the Sherman Police Department said.

Dawsey says he does not know how long the internal investigation is expected to last or what the outcome may be.

Lawenforcement are you sure thats what you are

Posted by: I know the law!!! Location: Grayson County on Sep 30, 2008 at 10:17 PM
Hey Learn the Law, I'm right here and still say that if it hadnt been a cop, he'd have been found guilty on both charges!!! This isnt his first time, he has abused many women before and needs to pay by losing his position as a police officer. He screwed up and needs to pay for what he has done and a slap on the wrist isnt the way its done! I am not a doper nor is my family and I'm here to tell ya the justice system is screwed in Grayson County and I can tell you that from experience working with the justice system in Grayson County, not as an offender either!!!!

OOTO (whatever the heck that means)- in this case, you know nothing. It's not cop-bashing, just truth. I have no qualms with Sherman PD overall, nor am I as anti-cop as some folks who post here (hey, Kelli- didn't see you over there). I just happen to know this particular officer has got more to worry about that just a simple misdemeanor rap. Oh, and OOTO- be nice, or I'll tell the Feds about your previous history as a child molester and meth-lab operator (lol)

Wow! Did y'all hear? Anonymous on Sep 27, 2008 at 05:24 PM has been brought in for questioning on the Freddie Guedea case as a "person of interest."

just like they are perfect and dont make others life miserable they should investigate more of the crooks

Posted by: OOTO Location: Texoma on Sep 29, 2008 at 11:08 AM
Yeah, Anonymous on Sep 27, 2008 at 05:24 PM, just like all of those who claimed he was guilty on these charges in the previous story. Just sounds like someone wants to cop bash. Watch, I can do the same thing as you. I have heard that Anonymous on Sep 27, 2008 at 05:24 PM is being investigated by the DEA for various trafficking offenses, not to mention the ATF for allegedly providing weapons to terrorists. Mark my words, when all is said and done, Anonymous on Sep 27, 2008 at 05:24 PM will be doing hard time at a Federal prison.

Posted by: Melissa Location: Oklahoma on Sep 28, 2008 at 04:27 AM
Its sad to say, but if he would have been a walmart employee, this story wouldn't even have made the news. The media will do anything to make a law enforcement officer's life miserable.

Posted by: Anonymous on Sep 27, 2008 at 05:24 PM
Nope, no felonies........but this cop has been under investigation by more than the grand jury. I can't say any more than that, but I can tell you if/when the caca hits the fan, this guy will be wearing an orange jumpsuit.

Uh "Susan" the last time I checked, which was recently. Assault Family Violence is a misdemeanor. It is felony when aggravated. This was not a case of aggrevated assault. If I got my information correctly....the DA's office presented it as a misdemeanor. I could be wrong, but nothing was ever said about an aggrevated assault.

Posted by: Jarrod Location: Denison on Sep 26, 2008 at 03:12 PM
It is amazing to me how many people are always quick to critize everything that comes on this website, there is always some type of a conspiracy theory. If you people would read the story you would see that the oficer is still not working at the PD and does not know when or if he will return. There is still the charge of the interference with 911 he has to beat. As far as the good ol' boy system I don't think that is what is happening. I think SPD and the DA office has done everything by the book. If this would have happened in a small town or a town that the PD didn't care i think it would have been sweeped under the table. It shows that there are still some of those with integrity in this day in age. If we could all get a little more then this world would be a better place. I applaud Sherman city leaders and the DA.

Posted by: Susan Location: Sherman on Sep 26, 2008 at 02:54 PM
The interfering with a 911 call didn't go to the Grand Jury because it's a misdemeanor. Only felonies go to the Grand Jury. When the alleged victim refuses to cooperate with the Grand Jury, for whatever reason, then there's very little that the Grand Jury can do. I would be more interested in knowing who the man's attorney is; Bob Jarvis, Keith Brown?

Every person knows that the D.A. presents the case and he leads the Grand jury in the decision he wants to. It's a political hot potato so that's his way of passing the buck back to the P.D. Get real the good old boy system is alive and well in theis God forsaken county!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by: Someone Close Location: denison on Sep 26, 2008 at 11:38 AM
The only reason the grand jury cleared him is because the DA's office allowed her to try and convince them to not accept charges of assault. HE IS STILL NOT CLEARED ON THE INTERFERENCE WITH A 911 CALL. His wife is the main reason he was saved from having assault charges filed on him. Neither one of them are perfect, but they are both awesome people, just not together. I would also like to know why the DA's office did not let the grand jury decide on the "interference with a 911 call". That sounds a little fishy to me. They should do the right thing and drop all and any charges. That is the victim's wish.

Posted by: me Location: in the real world on Sep 26, 2008 at 11:21 AM
You people need to step into reality. The officer not being indicted wasn't the doing of the Sherman Police Department or the District Attorney's Office. He was no-billed by the Grand Jury, which is made up by no other than the citizens of Grayson County. Being no-billed just means that in the Grand Jury didn't find enough evidence to take it to trail. It doesn't mean that he was or wasn't guilty. And I think that this incident shows the true integrity of SPD and the DA's office. Instead of making it "go away", they pursued charges as they should. Whether he did it or not, I don't know. If he didn't, the right thing was done. If he did, then justice was not served. There are 3 sides to every story - his side, her side and the truth. As for "Al" in Sherman - if you truly felt threatened by him, why wouldn't you file a complaint - with SPD, the Texas Rangers or the state commission board. If I was threatened, you can bet I would...unless it was because of my own actions...

Posted by: LEARN THE LAW Location: SHERMAN on Sep 26, 2008 at 11:15 AM
people are you really that stupid. he was cleared of charges by a GRAND JURY. A GRAND JURY IS COMPRISED OF LOCAL CITIZENS who are presented with facts to see if there is enough evidence to bring charges against him. don,t be stupid talking about how crooked grayson county is. the people who are complaning if you get down to it are either DOPERS OR DRUGGIES OR THEIR FAMILIES ARE. COME ON AND ADMIT IT DON,T BE AFRAID. you people are so transparent all you want to do is complain about law enforcement just because they caught your little johnny with a couple of ounces of dope, while he was trying to sell it to so little kid, TRYING TO MESS UP ANOTHER LIFE. GROW UP YOU TRASHY DRUG PUNK TRASH

Posted by: Barb on Sep 26, 2008 at 10:46 AM
Is it true police are not hired if they have an IQ above 100? Sherman PD are you hiring convicted felons like in Houston?

Posted by: Tammy Location: Sherman on Sep 26, 2008 at 10:30 AM
Is anyone really surprised that the officer wasn't indicted? Perhaps the Grayson County D.A. will do the right thing and reduce the charge to a misdemeanor.

Posted by: al Location: sherman tx on Sep 26, 2008 at 09:49 AM
This "officer" has stopped me for a traffic incident in the past and was horribly angry at me and made me feel threatened. It would not surprise me to find out that he is guilty .

Posted by: Sara Location: Sherman on Sep 26, 2008 at 08:53 AM
That's about par for Sherman PD. Dropped charges, but we all knew they would be dropped. Hope he's not called out to my house to help!

Posted by: anonymous Location: sherman on Sep 26, 2008 at 08:40 AM
Of course he was cleared. Just shows how crooked Grayson County and the Sherman PD are. If it was anyone else, they would be charged and placed on probation. Score one for SPD!

Posted by: OOTO Location: Texoma on Sep 26, 2008 at 08:36 AM
Hmmm...I wonder where all those people who had already found him guilty in the thread following the first story are???

Theres that good ole boy system workin again.

Posted by: barb Location: sherman on Sep 26, 2008 at 04:30 AM
This guy has an anger problem. Hope Iam never pulled over in a traffic stop by him. He may be like the ones you read about that beat the holy H out inocent citizens. Iam white and no criminal record so don't anyone start with the race issue. Many of these police are not here to protect and serve but throw around authority.

GIVE HIM THE MAX. POLICE OFFICERS THINK THAT THEY ARE IMMUNE TO THE LAW THEY ALSO THINK THAT THEY SHOULD BE REWARDED EVERY THING THEY DO SOMETHING FOR SOMEONE ELSE. HE NEEDS TO BE PUT IN HIS PLACE!!!

he's a cop thats why it was ok

Posted by: just me Location: bfe on Sep 25, 2008 at 09:19 PM
They better not let him off this is what gives cops a bad name. Like they can do what ever they want and get away with it. And he will. He has in the past so I guess if you are a sherman cop you can do what you want.

Posted by: COME ON!! Location: Sherman on Sep 25, 2008 at 08:57 PM
There are 2 sides to every story...this guy is a cop...let him continue to be one. Does this one mark on his record exclude all the good he has done? Clear him. IF I were a cop, and my wife was trying to call the police on me, I would freak out a bit too....At least he was not on the take...

Posted by: me Location: here on Sep 25, 2008 at 06:46 PM
Put him back on the job on traffic control. Someone needs to be out there slowing people down, especially all those Dallas/Plano/McKinney/Frisco/Richardson people heading back home from the lake hauling their boats at 75-80 mph in a 60 mph speed zone!! They are probably intoxicated as well.

Posted by: Anonymous on Sep 25, 2008 at 06:27 PM
Its sure funny if that was a average joe we still be in jail. Its funny how a cop does it and its all ok and he get paid the hole time hes off work.
