SHERMAN, TX -- A Sherman police officer accused of interfering with an emergency telephone call has been cleared of related assault charges. A Grayson County grand jury declined to take action against 42-year-old Freddie Guedea on a charge of assault causing bodily injury- family violence, but charges of interfering with an emergency call are still pending.
Guedea turned himself into authorities earlier this month after an argument with his wife apparently got out of hand. Police say Guedea's wife tried to dial 911 during that argument. That was when authorities say Guedea broke the phone.
Guedea has been with the Sherman Police Department for several years.
The grand jury declined taking action on the assault charge stemming from that incident. Officials said the charge of interfering with an emergency call is still pending.
It is unclear if or when Guedea will return to active duty as the investigation continues.
"From what I understand he was no-billed by the grand jury [on the assault charge]. Right now he is still on administrative leave, and pending the outcome of an internal investigation by the department," Sgt. Bruce Dawsey of the Sherman Police Department said.
Dawsey says he does not know how long the internal investigation is expected to last or what the outcome may be.
