SHERMAN, Tex. -- After months in the making, the 80-foot steeple went up at Saint Anne’s Church in Sherman. The new church estimated to cost over $7 million dollars will hold 800 people.

Church leaders say they have been working on the project for over 14 years.

"I think it gives a good feeling of accomplishment when you see actual brick and mortar going together and it being put in place," former Grayson County judge and parishioner Tim McGraw said.

The church is expected to be open by Easter Sunday.

I'm sure the new building is not cheap, but that is the business of the Catholic Church and its members, not me. I'm not a Catholic, but I like the style of architechture (sp?) used- it lacks the sprawling appearance of the Protestant megachurches, and reminds me of how Catholic church buildings should look. What, though, will the diocese do with the building St. Mary's now occupies?

Actually Heath I have no idea if you look stupid but you sure sound stupid. If you are not paying for it them your opinion really doesn't matter to me.

Thanks MARY for your great input. It doesn't have to be over the top. To Spend that much money on a church is dumb. It does not matter where the money came from, it is still being waisted. And No I am not paying for it. Do I look Stupid! (That's not a question.)

Why do any of you care what it cost?? Are you paying for it?? Do you even know where the money to build it came from??

That would be a $7 million church building, the people are the church.

During my trip to my hometown area in Pa. this past summer, I was sad to hear my former diocese had decided to close or consolidate many churches. Small town catholics now have to travel to other towns to attend mass, and priests no longer have just one church to lead. It was heartbreaking to watch my family and friends lose the church, not only where they grew up in, but also their parents and grandparents. We are so blessed at St. Mary's to see the building of St. Anne's!

Who needs a 7 million dollar church. That is plain stupid.

It's good to see a steeple raised in Sherman instead of another department store.
