MUSKOGEE, Okla. (AP) - Federal charges have been filed against three people in an alleged murder-for-hire scheme to kill the wife of a U.S. soldier serving overseas.
U.S. Attorney Sheldon Sperling says a complaint was filed Friday against 32-year-old Tonia Renee Mullins and 43-year-old Regina Hercules, both of Ada.
Also charged is 26-year-old Michael Andrew Crawford who is on active duty in Korea and is the husband of the intended victim.
All three are charged with conspiracy and use of interstate commerce facilities in the commission of a murder-for-hire.
Each faces up to 10 years in prison if convicted.
Authorities allege the three plotted the killing to collect the woman's $250,000 life insurance policy.
