SHERMAN, Tex. – A small group of protesters gathered outside Faith Church in Sherman during a gospel concert Saturday night.

The small group stood outside the faith church on FM 1417 in Sherman, holding signs directed at people passing by and those attending the gospel singing event.

Protester Jason Weiss says he is a former member of the church and says he wants others to know what's happening there.

"We feel it's right to let not only the members of this organization know the truth that's being kept from them, but also the community at large that this is a wolf in sheep's clothing."

Protesters called their demonstration “an intervention.”

We tried contacting the church Saturday but were unsuccessful.

The church’s website states that Faith Church “is an energetic, Spirit-filled, worshiping church of believers located just 45 minutes north of the Dallas Metroplex in Sherman, Texas.”

Reverend Charles Glass is the pastor of Faith Church.

I remember when a member of this church disowned their parents because GOD (Charles Glass) said for them to do that. And they did. I have attened this church and there is no doubt Brother Glass as they call him is their God. This is not the typical Pentecostal church. Wake up people and get out of there. Read you Bible instead of letting him tell it they way he wants to.

Honor God, acknowledge that His will be done on earth as it is in Heaven, ask Him to give you your needs, ask Him to forgive you as you forgive others, ask Him to lead you away from temptation and to be delivered from evil, acknowledge that His kingdom is everlasting and He deserves your praise. Do this first in all things and you'll discover the meaning of peace regardless of who you are.

Seems that everyone has had their say on here about a place that is not what it seems to be... We all wish it was...it used to be a good place to go and worship God, years ago... at least that's what I thought as a child growing up. After I grew up, I found out things were not as they seemed to be. I pray for those that are holding out for change, that it will come, and it will be done in God's way. May God help us all to wait for His timing in all things.

I'm still trying to figure out how this whole "prayer room" beating system pertains to worshipping God. I don't know everything there is to know about the bible but from what I do know I definately don't recall God ever "beating the sin" out of anyone. What book is this Glass nutjob getting his info from? And who in the world certified him to be a reverend?! I can only assume that he has never had the sin beaten out of him, awful convenient if you ask me.

People think it is easy. They say just leave but when you are in a situation like this and I would compare it to spousal abuse you are held against your will. You get run down, betten up, and emotionally drained to the point of no return. And what I am hearing from xmember is the sentence above. You are frightened out of your gore and feel there is no where to turn. We have to come to grips with things. Unless we ourselves become strong enough to overcome ourselve talk we will stay until we our someone we love enough gets hurt. And then we stand and say "NO MORE ABUSE" This is what happened to me! I know from experience what it takes to overcome the mental, emotional, and physical abuse from a very violent abuser. And then we try to avoid the person or persons as all cost. Yes, I do feel like I am running scarred all the time. But if that is what it takes to keep myself and my kids safe then so be it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I married a man that I loved. I stayed in it even though there were knives flying past my head on a pretty much of a daily routine. I always told him I knew he was sick when I married him and I would never leave. I had children and I brought them into this situation. Until one day he held me and my children at knife point. I finally left due to the safety for my kids. I lived in this mess for 7 years. My kids were a few months old when we left. They still have nightmares. I never told anyone what I was going through; even when I was asked by those that had a pretty good idea what was going on. I lied and denied. So he would not get hurt. I had more respect for him then I did myself. Plus I felt like if I left he could not make it on his own. Also when will he come after us (I still believe he is going to come after us). He has supervised visitation with the children but I have to let him know where we reside and a phone number (what good is the law

They don't want to be saved. They won't report it. That is what happens when you are brainwaswhed. You don't even know that what isws going on is not right. Your brain does not equate right from wrong properly. It takes major intervention to help them think clearly again. Until then they are satisfied with the abuse because they feel it is how it is supposed to be.

By the way, how long have you attended Faith church? btw again, ever notice how the folks that go to Faith seem to be ashamed of it? The 5 or 6 long time members that I know usually stumble all over themselves trying to get away when the subject of their church comes up.

It seems like someone just have enough time to be posting all of these comments. Of what I had read, in detail, it seems that this (the negatives comments) is the work of a single pungent and bitter individual, an individual that for whatever reason is against Faith Church. Those comments posted are just presumed accusations without a single shred of evidence; that is all they are! (Mind you that those accusations are only made outside of a court of law.) If you, the reader, can put special attention to the comments, you will see that in fact there are rhetorical messages posted here, and is my opinion that you have in your community an individual that is not willing to stop at nothing (including calling your local TV station) to stir trouble among you.

This is not the only church like this in Sherman-or the area. Maybe to this extreme with the mind control-but when is someone going to listen and do something?? There was one that sent the Pastors to a "mens Club" in Dallas!!!! The one thing we have to remember is they are not the guide to what is right and God does not condone what they are doing. People still have to have common sense-we all have a sense of discernment and must use it. These people-and people like them will have to answer to a much Higher Court. They are probably scared of what will happen to them if they do put up a fight. Obviously enough of the "right" people know enough about what is going on to keep it quiet. I went there one time with a friend when I was 9 and it totally creeped me out even as a kid. I just didn't know what it was at the time, but it gives me the heebie jeebies to this DAY to drive past that old church on Harrison St. Anyway, I think I have enough high profile people belong there in order for it to be a non issue. It is this way in many aspects in Sherman!!!

They have gotten away with it for all these years because they don't use the tactics on everyone. Just a select few. The families that have been there the longest and are true insiders are the ones who know about it. The actual victims are brainwashed into believing that it is done for their own good. They are made to believe that telling anyone about it will results in harm to their families and that God will punish them. The abuse happens behind closed doors and is kept secret, or at least as secret as possible. You folks that have helped cover this up will get yours on judgement day. I will be in heaven praising my Lord and Saviour. Will you? How will you answer to Him on how you allowed this to go on when all you had to do was give a statement to the police? But, by the time you've become un-brainwashed, and realize what has happened it's long over. It's difficult for Child Protective Services CPS to question these preppy cult members. Reporting to the police is a good thing, but they want to catch people in the act. After they brainwash people and beat the devil out of them, and the Police show up at their door to question them, the abusers will deny everything. Remember, it's not yet illegal to brainwash. Mind control needs to be a felony. When will our society be able to enforce mental laws? It took a long time for everyone just to acknowledge emotional abuse. The physical wounds are easier to see. Emotional wounds are invisible but just as real.

FYI - It appears another protest is being planned. Faith church is planning a fall festival in which they are targeting kids. Everyone needs to show up. This is much more important than the last protest. We want this cult to stay away from our kids.

I'm thankful for the laws of your land that protect the freedom of religion, but the laws need to protect those abused by religion as well. There should be a law that any leader that is paid by non-profit organization such as a church be required to report to it's members the salaries of those paid. Charles Glass drives a new cadillac every year, belongs to several country clubs, get's $100 haircuts, lives in a mansion with a 50k media room, goes on expensive trips, used to own his own private plane, and uses the churches money to eat out every meal. No one at the cult has any idea what Charles Glass is paid plus he writes his own checkes. It's sounds to me like the IRS should be involved. There are some obvious illegal money activities going on? Why is is he lives like a multi millionaire and no one is ask how or even why?

Dont get me wrong ive heard all the stories too, but i know if that were my family and i getting abused by these people then i sure would have been at the police station in a heart beat doing everything in my power to put these people away. Why Now? Great Question. I've only got guesses. 1..God's timing always seems a bit weird to me. 2..perhaps 3 generations is enough. (see exodus 20:5) Perhaps God's paying them a visit.

As a former member, I witnessed a lot of abuses. More mental then physical. We should have reported it to the police, but we we were so brainwashed to believe we were helping people see things about themsleve or see the devil that was affecting them. I know it now sounds crazy, but at the time we sincerely thougt we were doing good. We now know we were following a false prophet and hurt a lot of people. We did it in the name of God. It wasn't until years later that we realized what we actually were doing was illegal and really no different than what OJ is on trial for now. I am sorry for all the hurt I caused, but I was really blind and now I see. Most of what we did was at the direction of MJ Glass. He has always tried to say he didn't know what was going on in the prayer room. I know this to be false. He himself tried to choke a teen once and I personally witnessed Charles G. shoving a young teen up against a brick wall.

It's the truth----what has Faith church done for the community? Do they help with any shelters? Preach to the homeless? Help at a food bank? They don't do anything to help anyone in the community. To Bob: When you attend this cult on Sunday, let us know how many attended. You will see mostly empty seats. What you don't understand is they are experts and concealing their underground abuse. The abuse use to be more out in the open and done within the walls of the building. They now put on their smiley faces and know how to put on a good show now. It's at peoples homes and in secret when the abuse now occurs. What I would suggest is going on Sunday morning and then Wednesday night and see if you can notice a difference. They are less guarded on Wednesday nights. Who know MJ might even put on a show for you fighting the demons and devils. She usually walks around seeking whom she destroy in the background. I doubt with all the attention right now she will do anything. She will be required to be on her best behavior. I would bet you will reconginze the something isn't quite right. Go the forum and let us know on Sunday afternoon.

I second the comment left by "Why Now". This so-called church has been around for years and has always had quite a reputation for abuse and strong arm tactics with people attempting to leave the church or sinners needing the sin beat out of them. I am not saying it as a fact, but that is the reputation of the church and has been for at least the last twenty five years. One local church changed the name of their church (about five years ago) right after the Glasses changed the name of this church to avoid being confused with them. So WHY NOW?? What brought this up again?

I've attended Faith Church for many years and I've never seen anything but good people doing what churches are supposed to do: worshiping God and helping the community. Sherman is blessed with many wonderful churches and I don't think that any of them are "out to get" any other church. I'm thankful for the good work that all of our churches do.

I will go to Faith Church on Sunday to see what the fuss is all about it. I just found it very odd that many people claim that those accusations really happen yet no one has-had file a formal complaint against that Church. but kelly, its one thing for a church to be limited in funds and have people in the church that don't have nice things, which should be ok anyway but, its another thing to have a church ABUSE the people that are in it, now thats wrong and people lives are being altered for what? So that their leaders can live in a HUGE house and buy all the best clothing while the congregation that supplys those luxuries get nothing? not even common respect? cmon maybe i don't understand your point but it doesn't matter what the people in the church have its the ABUSE thats wrong

To Happy- I saw a program on the NatGeo Channel last night featuring several people with smiling, happy faces, who all cheerfully dressed in black, took the bye-bye pills, and shuffled off this mortal coil, all because they believed some goofball who was aiting for aliens to come and save them. Not to say that Faith Church is just like the Heaven's Gate cult, but you and your fellow worshippers seem to be the cash cows for a abusive old man. I feel so sorry for you. But, his time will come- he'll croak, and his wife will go senile, and you and all your followers will be as lost sheep. Hopefully you'll make the right choice and find better shepherds than you have now.

I don't know why people keep bringing up First Baptist Church in Sherman. They have nothing to do w/ this. I don't even know that i've ever been there. I just keep trying to clarify that, but it keeps poping back up, which is odd in and of itself.

I'd like to be a fly on the wall during the sermon on Wednesday or Sunday this week at church. Bet they've got something really special cooked up due to all the controversy!! It'll probably make their psychotic little cult that much stronger.. BUT- next time they corner some new-comer in the prayer room, they might need to realize it could be a Dateline NBC reporter or 20/20 reporter. I bet all this comes to a halt pretty quickly with that in mind. All this talk may have cured some of that stuff. Never know where there are hidden cameras.... The man has become unnecessarily wealthy at the expense of that church's members. No religious leader should be that overpaid and ridiculously rich. He is in it for the cash and because he loves controlling and manipulating others. He will even decide on who long time members can and cannot marry. If only the enthusiam for God in that church was not so misplaced there is no telling how much good could come from there. I pray that God will open the eyes of those who refuse to see the truth. Sometimes the ones closest to it are the last to realize how bad it is. Remember, everyone in David Koresh's fold thought he was great too. The general public can see how ridiculous things are but many of those in the congregation sadly see it as the norm and as being acceptable.

Thankfully it's America, so they are free to hold signs, just as I am free to go inside my choice of church and worship as I please. It doesn't matter to me how much they try to turn the community against us, or if they hold signs or start rumors on forums... whatever they do it doesn't matter because I rely on my own personal experience, not rumors, gossip or signs to make my choices in life. And my personal experience has been truly wonderful at Faith Church. So go ahead, knock yourself out and protest or "intervene." It doesn't matter to me. I am thankful that I have the freedom to make my own choice of where and how to worship, and I choose Faith Church.

To "I only want to know why": I don't know if FBC is trying to take Glass down but I seriously doubt it. However if they were the answer to why is as plain as the nose on your face. 30 years of allegations. Read these comments. Read the web forum listed. Talk to former members. How can you say why? Maybe because they care about their fellow man? Or better yet because they want to keep false gospel from being spread. The events that have taken place behind the walls of their present and past buildings is not biblical. It is torture.

Ronnie - Give it time and you will see what everyone is talking about. Don't let them seperate you and your new wife. If you start to notice something that is not quite right, take note that it might be God talking to you. They usually wait until you are married about one year then they will start working on either you or your wife. The loyalty cannot be between husband and wife to the church. It has to be husband to church and wife to the church. They will test your loyalty by putting divisions between the two of you. Hopefully by me writing this article they will stay clear and leave you alone. Signed - someone who cares and knows.

Several years ago, I decided to go to that church and see for myself what all the fuss was about. I was surprised to find the most wonderful people, caring leadership, and a constant atmosphere of great love and devotion to God. Nearly a decade later, my faith has grown, my love and caring for others has grown, and I have been loved and supported by my church family and leadership through many of life's trials. I have never seen anything remotely like what these people describe. It has been wonderful and I'm so thankful to be a part of Faith Church. I pray that the protestors can find peace in their hearts. I would never leave what I know to be true from my own personal experience because of what they say.

Well of course, as long as you are paying tithe and enjoying everything. But if you ever question them or decide to leave, things will start to get weird. All new converts there are treated like royalty. They attract people who NEED love and acceptance, but be careful, if you cross them, it gets ugly. We are no "just people who protested," we are decent human beings who have been treated very unkindly in a very vulnerable situation, for the most part during very innocent and vulnerable times of our lives. I have been attending this church since January with my fiance who just married me at faith church with pastor Glass performing the ceremony. I have not felt this Welcome, this Loved, and as spiritually moved in any church since I was a child. I have seen absolutely nothing associated with these allegations in this church. The pastors and members have embraced us with God's Love and they provided us with unbelievable help and support with our wedding. I do not know these people who protested, or what problems that they have in their lives. I only pray that they can find the peace that they lack which only GOD can provide.

Sounds like if you get a large enough group of folks you can pretty much do what you want, huh? I mean, this sounds like an organized crime/ mafia kind of group? People are scared. Once they get in- they can't get out. If they are brave enough to leave, they are shunned and may obviously fear for their lives. Sounds like these people will ruin your families, your careers, and physically harm you if you cross them. I say people should stay FAR away from this organization (I hate to call it a "church".). I've been very shocked to find out some of the names of people within this church. This is really sad. These people are in a tight spot now. Staying with the group is torture- but leaving would be too!! Messed-up situation.

Glass (I refuse to call him Reverand) is only a few short years away from having to answer to his maker. No matter what he has gotten away with on earth, he will be judged for it by God in the end. I just hope that things get better when he is gone. Sadly it appears as though there are more vultures readily awaiting their opportunity to feast on those poor, brainwashed members whenever Glass kicks it.

No church was 'behind' the protest. It was a collaboration of former members and concerned citizens. No permit was needed, but we did interview w/ 4 very nice police officers 2 days before the event. I'm sure the concert was professionally done. It always is. The singing was almost assuredly great as always. But that is not why we were there in protest. We were there to litterally intervene and serve as a warning for those who would be influenced to join their religious club. And it's true. I had nothing better to do because i couldn't think of a more important use of my time that Saturday than to warn people of this hidden danger.

A lot of people have thought this abuse had died down, however after seeing Don Hudgeon's photos on the forum address below it is OBVIOUS there is still mental and physical abuse going on with the ELDERLY and I'm sure the CHILDREN as well. I remember going to school with LWL, who was reportedly locked in a room and aledgedlly had demons exorcized by beating the hell out of him. I also had a 6th and 7th grade social studies teacher who went to the church. I worked with her husband as a draftsman at Johnson and Johnson. I know a family of girls who's last name was estes who were seperated from their families.

I went to the concert and it was very professionally done. I think people who protested a free concert should stay away and let people go to what they want to go see. As for it being evil, that is a bunch of baloney. You can be said to be evil by just about anything nowadays. If it was so bad there wouldn't be anybody attending and building something that as far as I could see was very pretty. By the way KXII said they couldn't reach the church for a comment, why didn't they go inside and talk to the preacher? He was there and so was everyone else. What I read on their comments posted here and on the forum sound overall like someone with an axe to grind and downright hateful. I wish KXII would quit supporting that and start broadcasting uplifting reports on entertainment.

This is NOT news. This is obvious the work of just few individuals with nothing better to do. I just find it hard to believe that in this day and age someone can “order” you to do something you do NOT want to do. Is just bizarre and hard to believe. If something truly were happening in there the police would have been involved there so long ago. I question many of these accusations posted in here. I question the news piece. Why? No one had file a single accusation in a court of law!!!! Larry mentioned that: “[they] don't file a law suit, because they don't have the money” That is BS! If something is terribly wrong, we/all/I (past members or not members, even members of this community) will do everything in our power to get to the bottom of the accusations to expose weather or not are those/this accusation have foundations. In the mean time, please report real news.

Many people in the community know that is First Baptist Church of Sherman who organized this event against Faith Church. FBC has been trying for many years to discredit the family of Faith Church. It is time that those members from FBC stop bullying the congregation of Faith Church.

It is so sad that there would be so many people upset with the leaders of this church and they don't care to address the reason, except to say we are all "just disgruntled x-members." The pastor has always "held himself above it all" with the attitude that those who speak out are all just spouting off and are not worth "messing with." Does anyone else think that is a strange stance for a minister to be taking? Is there no other answer than to ignore what they call "dissidents" so they will go away? They say our voice is stopping them from reaching lost souls... What about the souls of those that have had their faith in God destroyed by the spiritual abuse of these leaders?

I remember very well the news coverage of this "church" in the early 80s. My husband worked with a guy at T.I. that was the victim of the midnight raids. He had a family and they told his wife to divorce him...and she did! He told my husband that all the stories that were told then were true, and I've read the forum and I don't believe that you can get that many people SWEARING to the same things and them NOT be true. Where there is smoke, there's fire. After seeing the pictures of the elderly gentleman covered in bruises after a trip to the "prayer room" on the forum, I am astounded that noone is in jail/prison for that kind of abuse of the elderly! If you are someone who knows this poor man, PLEASE go to the District Attorney and file a report on the abuse as a friend of the victim. I guess the other thing that astounds me is the fact that people have not only let their children be victims of this cult but they are the ones who took them into the den of inquitity to begin with!

There have been several comments .."why hasn't something been done"...and the answer is FEAR! Back in late 1970/early 80's..."church members" ...shot at a woman and her small children trying to flee from the church...following them and shooting all the from Sherman to ...one of the S&S towns..we'll just leave it at that. It happened. There were questions surrounding the "fire" at the "Good Rev Glass's" first Church in Sherman...Jim Jones....oh yes!

This was a cruel comment that Mary Jo Glass made towards 2 former members and posted it at the funeral home and the Herald Democrat. The IP address was traced back to Faith Church. I guess Mary Jo wasn't aware this technology could be traced. One of the obituaries was to a former members child who just passed away at the age of 32. This will give you just a small example of their cruelty.

Why would this pastor continue to be in leadership? He's 76 years old and been there for over 50 years. I would bet there is no one to take and place and once he dies it will all fall apart. It obvious that he not in it for the cause of Christ, but in it for his own agenda.

The faith church people parked by the apartments, to block the protest. They also turned on the sprinkler system. There were around 25-30, protesters, not 2. Faith church disinformation experts are at it again. Many don't file a law suit,because they don't have the money. They gave it the Faith Church and Charles Glass. I an a former member who spent most of my life in this cult. I put my trust in what I thought was a man of God. Charles Glass lied to me and convinced me to turn against my parents who taught me to have respect for the spiritual leader. Charles and Mary Jo Glass are the most evil people on this planet earth. They are using the name of God for their own financial gain and abuse people for their own pleasure. They have split family after family all in the name of God. I know it's hard for most people to believe and that we have made our own choices, but we put our trust in these people and they took advantage of that trust. I'm so glad my kids will never go through the kind of abuse I endured. Thank God I got away from this cult and their teachings.

I live close to the old church and as a child was fascinated with how big and impressive it was. Several childhood girlfriends had invited me to attend services. I remember one of them being demeaned for having a dress that was too short. Later after the exposure by the news media it became a circus over there. People in and out at all hours of the night. I see my friends now and don't recognize them -- they wear makeup, have short hair and even wear shorts. If it was a sin then why isn't it now. We all have commented on the LDS church, this one scares me more it's right here in our own home town, with many members functioning as teachers, lawyers and doctors.

This is Jason Weiss...the guy interviewed on the piece. The KXII reporter who interview me, may have accidentally got myself and another protestor confused. I have never been a member of FC...THANK GOD! But i think that gives me an advantage in the intervention because my involvement was not governed by desire for personal retribution. Also, there were 15 people w/ signs on the streets, no less...i counted and knew them all.

For all we know they could have been protesting that the church had services at 10 AM instead of 10:15 AM. This is *terrible* reporting. Will texoma ever get decent journalists?

Shame on all of you that are passing judgement on these people who faced abuse. I bet you are the kind of person that blames a rape victim for being raped too with that kind of attitude. I too used to attend this church. While I never saw any physical abuse in the 6 years that I attended, I certainly saw the emotional abuse. When you teach folks that questioning is a lack of faith, your problems begin there, it then gives the leadership all the power. A large majority of the people that attend are good people, the leadership is corrupt and they take advantage of these people's faith and loyalty. I no longer live in Sherman, but I still will not put my name here because I have many families members that do and I fear they could be harassed. If ever a story of cult abuse needed national attention, this one is it. Please be respectful to those who are speaking out against abuse. Remember the saying, walk a mile in someone else's shoes...
