New Water Park Hot Spot for Summer

06-07-06 - A project two years in the making in Ardmore is getting to open its doors to the public this coming weekend. The Ardmore Community Water Park held their ribbon cutting ceremony Wednesday.

The project to completely overhaul the pool began about two years ago and the city put about $1.6 million into the project. They wanted to renovate a pool that was over 50 years old and a pool that was not attractive to residents.

So they build a water park complete with slides with what is called a zero depth entry where smaller kids can walk right into the pool. And a completely revamped concession area is making the park a hot spot for kids and adults for the summer. The park will not open until this weekend, but Wednesday officials held a ribbon cutting ceremony, where afterwards the park was open to 300 city employees to celebrate the opening.

To pay for the project, the city raised the money a few different ways. About $1.3 million of the money came from the GAPS tax that was passed a couple of years ago and the other $400,000 came from Southern Oklahoma Memorial Organization and the Community Activity Foundation of Ardmore.

The park is located at the corner of 3rd and F Street Northeast. The city says the park is already booked solid throughout the summer for pool parties.
