MUENSTER,TX -- 3 high school girls remain in the hospital after a car crash Sunday night.

"It hits close, you know those things can happen any second." said John Bartush.

Five Muenster High School girls crashed their car on County Road 428 and Mesquite road Sunday night. School officials say four of them are on the basketball team.

"They were at a team meeting, and they were coming back into town from a friends house and were just driving at a high rate of speed and lost control." said Clay Richerson.

Muenster ISD Superintendent Clay Richerson says three of the five girls are in the hospital..two in serious condition, the third in very serious condition with multiple injuries.

He says the small Cooke County town has come together to support the girls and their families.

"Muenster is a very tight knit community and everybody knows everybody, and word gets around real fast." said Richerson.

"It was right here at County Road 428 where the girls vehicle veered off the road, hit in this field, and ended up on the other side of the baseball field upside down."

Local resident John Bartush has a daughter at Muenster High School. He says almost 30 minutes after the wreck, hundreds of people from the town met together to pray at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

"It was very comforting to know we can communicate and get together in a moments notice when we need something." said Bartush.

The names of the girls have not been released.

The school district says they have counselors on hand for fellow students and they ask the public to keep the girls and their families in their thoughts.

"We just need to remind ourselves that live is short and we need to make good decisions." said Richerson.
