ANTLERS, OK - Three people are dead after a crash involving two semi trucks just west of Antlers Thursday afternoon.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says just after 1 p.m. two 18-wheelers traveling northbound collided near mile marker 16 on the Indian Nation Turnpike. They say when one of the trucks tried to turn around, the second truck struck the first at a high rate of speed.

Both drivers died at the scene, as well as a passenger in one of the trucks.

"It appears at this time one was attempting a turn-a-bout, and the other one was attempting to evade the collision, and they struck each other and caught fire. At this time we have three fatalities," OHP Lt. Robert Darst said.

The names of the victims have not been released. The turnpike remains closed from Hugo to Antlers, as of 5:30 p.m. Thursday.
