3 killed in Lamar Co. accident

LAMAR COUNTY, TX - An accident on US 271 has left three people dead, including 1 child.

According to Texas DPS, Melody Sowards and her child were traveling eastbound around 1 p.m. Wednesday on US 271 near Deport when her 1999 Honda Civic crossed the roadway and entered a side skid.

Fred Woodard was traveling west bound on US 271 in a 1988 Ford Taurus when it struck the driver's side of the Honda.

30-year-old Melody Sowards of Wichita Falls and her 5-year-old passenger where pronounced dead at the scene at 1:50 p.m. 56-year-old Fred Woodard of Deport was also pronounced dead at the scene.
