06-23-06 - The Durant Planning And Zoning Commission approved 20 acres of agricultural land to be rezoned as industrial, making way for a new manufacturing company moving to Bryan County.
Icon Construction builds portable modular office buildings, and their main client is the federal government. This summer they'll be expanding from McKinney Facilities, building a 50,000 square foot factory on Big Lots Parkway in Durant.
The muli-million dollar company will be hiring 65 laborers this fall and up to 120 in the coming years.
The president of Icon Construction says they chose Durant because of its convenient location to the Metroplex, the economical cost of land, and the large number of job seekers in the area.
Construction is scheduled to begin on the new facilities in the next 45 to 60 days.
